Nissan has unveiled the new 2018 Nissan Leaf, which is expected to go on sale in all US 50 states early next year. The latest version has a longer drive range (241 kms) and carries of a starting price tag just below the $30,000 mark. 

Greenfield Global Inc. is exploring an expansion of biofuel production at its biorefinery in Varennes QC. A feasibility study has been kicked off to consider an increase in annual ethanol production capacity from current levels of 170 million litres per year to 300 million, or about a jump of 70%.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has approved GreenPower Motor Company Inc.’s Synapse Shuttle all-electric bus for funding under the Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). Each Shuttle sold in the state can receive $95,000 in financial support.

Bloomberg New Energy Finance has predicted that 54% of all vehicle sales in 2040 will be electric vehicles (EVs). The big driver of this demand comes from increasingly stringent fuel economy regulations, according to its recently released outlook on EV sales.

New Flyer Industries Inc. is moving into the second phase of bus supply contract with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). The company’s US subsidiary New Flyer of America Inc. is advancing the production of 105 Xcelsior diesel-electric hybrid, forty-foot heavy-duty transit buses for the authority.
