Norway’s national carbon capture and storage research funding program CLIMIT is contributing $3 million to help fund the development of a new capture capture technology that could prove less costly and easier to deploy at industrial facilities. The Carbon Capture and Conversion Institute (CCCI), based in Calgary, will do the engineering design work to scale up the process if initial testing is successful.

Canada's Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) is getting a lab to test carbon conversion technologies after landing an investment of up to $20 million from the federal and Alberta governments. The association says this is where companies vying for the $20 million NRG COSIA Carbon Xprize will get to verify their technologies.

Emissions Reduction Alberta (formerly the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corp.) has awarded $12 million in funding to four projects as part of the second round of its Grand Challenge: Innovative Carbon Uses program.

BBA has been hired as the lead engineering firm for CO2 Solutions Inc.’s first commercial carbon capture and reuse facility. It is located at a pulp mill in the Saint Félicien region of Quebec.

CO2 Solutions Inc. has received a $3-million non-refundable grant from the Bureau de l'efficacité et de l'innovation énergétiques (Technoclimat) to use towards the construction of a carbon capture plant at the Fibrek GP pulp mill, a subsidiary of Resolute Forest Products. The facility is located in the Saint-Félicien region of Quebec.
