Ballard Power Systems is providing more fuel cell stacks to Nisshinbo Holdingsa Inc. as part of an ongoing research program aimed at reducing the cost of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells. Nisshinbo is a strategic investor in Ballard having purchased $5 million worth of equity in the Vancouver firm last year.

Canada needs to get its act together on clean energy or it risks losing out on a big part of the global opportunity to countries in Asia and even the Middle East, according to Wal van Lierop, CEO at Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital. He tells Canadian Green Tech in an interview that high natural gas prices – four times the price in North America – are encouraging these regions to explore cheaper alternatives in the form of renewables.
