The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) lost more than US$7 billion, while the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) shed more than $756 million in the last years because they didn’t divest of fossil fuels assets, according to a new analysis from Corporate Knights, 350.org and the South Pole Group.

CO2 Mitigation Technologies

CO2 Solutions Inc. has taken yet another step closer to commercially rolling out its innovative enzyme-based carbon capture process. The Quebec City-based company announced this week that it had completed the technology demonstration at its Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. It’s located near Montreal.

Energy Conservation

PowerStream was able to reduce customer electricity consumption by more than 496 million kWh during the 2011 to 2014 period, exceeding its mandated target of 407.34 million kWh by 21%.

Regulation & Policy

Newly elected Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should halt the reviews of pipeline projects, including Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain and TransCanada's Energy East proposals, say a group of 100 environment, business and community groups. They say a full stop on the reviews should be announced before heading to the Paris COP21 conference.

Transportation

Ballard Power Systems has inked an agreement with Xiamen King Long Automotive Industry Co Ltd. To design and deploy fuel cell buses for the Chinese market. Under terms of the Strategic Collaboration Agreement, the two companies will collaborate on the development, optimization and production of a prototype fuel cell bus. Ballard will supply its fuel cell engine in addition to providing technology solutions support.
