Throughout the federal election campaign, and of course long before the writ was dropped, the Conservative Party of Canada has maintained its opposition to a price on carbon, saying it would be disastrous for the economy. It has also argued that its measured approach to reducing emissions (aka sector-by-sector regulations) is the best path forward.
But recent numbers from CBC/Radio-Canada’s Vote Compass show that it’s not so cut and dry for Conservative voters and that there may be an opportunity for a Conservative government to take action on both fronts without alienating too much of its base.
