Richard Legault, president and CEO of Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners (BREP), told an investors conference last week that its strategy to purchase uncontracted hydroelectricity assets in the northeastern United States will pay off in the long term once electricity prices begin to rise. Rates will increase as natural gas becomes a bigger part of the mix resulting from the retiring of coal plants and other end of life facilities.
